Cecilia Farren
Director
GASP Consultancy & Chair South West ASH
Biography
Cecilia Farren has worked as a tobacco control activist for over 40 years! She has retired from full-time work but over the years she has campaigned at local, national and international levels for the NHS and NGOs and TC advocacy groups. Cecilia founded GASP as a non-smokers rights group in 1980 and this evolved into a tobacco control resources and consultancy supplier. She also set up AGHAST (an anti-tobacco promotions and sponsorship group) and COUGHIN (using graffiti to ‘improve’ tobacco billboards). She went on to set up a more respectable South West ASH branch. She is still a ‘protest shareholder’ in Imperial Tobacco. Living in Bristol, the home of Imperial, has offered lots of opportunity for direct action. Despite being an ageing “enfant terrible” Cecilia was awarded membership of the Faculty of Public Health for her achievements in tobacco control.
