Biography
Lisa has a background of Nursing and Midwifery, is an experienced practitioner in smoking cessation with over 20 years’ experience in the field, supporting services to develop and deliver evidence based quality interventions to address health inequalities. She has worked as a Freelance Consultant and National Trainer for the past 10 years. Her area of expertise is smoking in pregnancy but she has also developed and delivered training and support to many other areas of health including Secondary Care, Primary Care, Prisons, Pharmacy, Health Visiting and Maternity.
Lisa has worked closely with the media, TV and Radio, filming a BBC Documentary in 2011.
The ‘Risk Perception Intervention’, showcased on the Documentary, was developed by Lisa when working as a Specialist Midwife in Rotherham, and is used to tackle resistant pregnant smokers, and it now forms part of the National ‘BabyClear’ Programme and has been embedded into many areas of the Country. This model has been published in the BJM April 2012, has been evaluated as being an effective intervention for pregnancy and is now an evidence based approach. It has been recommended as part of the NHS Long Term Plan and forms part of the NICE Guidance for best shared practice.
Lisa has written and delivered programmes for the National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) has been involved in the development of Training for Research Programmes, worked on NICE GUIDANCE and written articles for publication.
Lisa now travels across the UK, delivering training for Health Professionals to help tackle smoking. She supports services to implement new strategies to engage the hard to reach smokers and continues to develop new approaches to enable services to help resistant smokers in the general population.
Lisa has developed ‘Virtual Training’ to enable Health Professionals to easily access expert training to help empower and engage smokers into services at a time when smoking cessation must remain a key priority and significant economic, ethnic and health inequalities have been highlighted by the Pandemic.
Her expertise in this field has been recognised both nationally and internationally.
