The Champs Public Health Collaborative is led by Cheshire and Merseyside’s Directors of Public Health and Population Health, who for over 20 years have worked together to improve the health and wellbeing of the local population. The Collaborative delivers programmes and projects across the subregion on a range of public health priorities, and through its All Together Smokefree programme will ensure that local areas will meet the shared ambition to end smoking, everywhere, for everyone.

Fresh was the UK’s first dedicated regional tobacco control programme, set up in the North East in 2005 to address (then) the worst rate of smoking-related illness and death in England.

Smoking rates in the North East have reduced by nearly two-thirds, from 29% of adults smoking in 2005 to 11% of adults smoking in 2023, with the North East now second lowest region in the country. However, approximately 230,000 NE adults still smoke, and the latest evidence shows that up to two in every three long-term smokers are killed by tobacco. Fresh launched the North East’s declaration for a smokefree future in 2023, within which there is a clear vision: “A smokefree future, free of the death and disease from tobacco, is needed, wanted and workable. This would improve the health and wealth of our region’s most disadvantaged communities more than any other measure”.

The Humber and North Yorkshire Centre for Excellence in Tobacco Control is a pioneering initiative committed to transforming the future of our region by tackling one of the most pressing public health challenges—tobacco harm. Funded by the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, our mission is clear: to end the harm caused by tobacco.

Smoke Free is a full digital stop-smoking service. It supports people who smoke in over 200 countries, but specifically in England, where over 30 Local Authorities and NHS trusts use the 24/7 NCSCT-trained advisors and Smoke Free’s comprehensive tools of support.
